I Love This Collector's Enthusiasm

Mostly vintage and a couple of modern dolls from my personal collection

Here is a link to another collector's profile that I found immensely enjoyable.  Like me, Vicky Forbes loves vintage to modern black dolls.  She has been blessed to incorporate her love for dolls into a business.  Go Vicky!

  1. Hello. My name is Kelie Charles and I am the creator of “Double Dutch Dolls” a new doll line and book series for African-American, Hispanic, and Multiracial girls. Below is a little background on Double Dutch Dolls and why I thought it so important to create a series that highlights the beauty of children of color.

Multi-cultural toys, dolls and books are still hard to find. An article released April 2013 in the Huffington Post, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/17/census-minority-birth-rate_n_1523150.html reported for the first time, children of color make up over half of the children born in the U.S. Growing up as an African American girl, it was difficult to find African-American books, toys and dolls that represented us and now decades later even with the shift in our country’s demographics they’re still hard to find. So, with that in mind I embarked on a journey to create a collection of characters showcased in a line of books, dolls, and accessories that reflect the beautiful ethnic diversity of African-American, Hispanic, and Bi-racial children.

Each of the characters came to life when I started writing the first book in the series, “Double Dare”. Growing up I loved to read fun stories about girls my age who were experiencing the same challenges. My favorites were Francine Pascal’s Sweet Valley High and anything Judy Blume. I always wished there were characters like them who looked like me. So, I began to write down my random thoughts and ideas.

Finally, I pulled all those thoughts together and the Double Dutch Dolls were born. The characters are not perfect which is great because neither are we. But, each one is smart, beautiful and stylish and to the best of my ability, positively reflects all of the wonderful things I see in our children everyday. Double Dutch Dolls is dedicated to all girls in hopes that through the stories every young girl will see herself in one of the characters and be inspired to stay beautiful, brilliant, and brave.

I invite you to explore the book series, dolls and accessories by shopping the site, www.doubledutchdolls.com, reading an excerpt from Book #1 and leaving your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think and ideas you have for expanding the line. More new dolls and books are coming soon so come back and visit us or better yet leave your email address and we’ll send you updates. You can also follow us on facebook or twitter.
